RELATIVES of 53-year old Orvin Samuels of Manawarin, Moruca, Region 1(Barima/Waini) made the gruesome discovery when his body was found on Wednesday floating around Marlborough and Liledale villages, Lower Pomeroon River, some five miles from Charity.
The wife of the deceased, Ms. Prudencia Samuels told the Guyana Chronicle they were returning to their home in Manawarin on Sunday last after spending some five months working on a farm in Bonasica, Parika, but failed to get transportation because they arrived at Charity late in the afternoon so they decided to spend the night at Charity.
She further said that her husband whom she described as an easy going individual was last seen consuming alcohol with friends on the Charity Marketing Centre Wharf at around 19:00 h.
The dead man’s wife further revealed that she began fearing for the worst when checks to locate him proved futile. The woman said that she then filed a missing person report at the Charity Police Station on Monday as checks to locate him were all unsuccessful.
The woman in tears said she returned home to her family in Manarwarin on Monday, where they decided to come back to Charity on Wednesday morning to search for him and upon receiving news of a man floating in the Lower Pomeroon went to the area where the shocking discovery was made.
It is alleged that the man’s body was taken to the area where he was found by the falling tide the night before.
The body was then picked up from the water and taken to the Charity Burial Ground where detectives from the Charity Police Station carried out their examination and took photographs before he was laid to rest.
The man whose body had no marks of violence has left to mourn his wife, ten children, eight siblings along with other relatives and friends.
