Completion date of $1.2 billion GPH addition delayed

THE completion date for the new $1.2 billion in-patient facility at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) has been moved from this September to January 2011.
GPH Director of Facilities Management, Mr. Parmanand Samaroo, said it is because of some redesigning on the ground floor that was, initially, designed to accommodate the administrative complement of staff.

The change will see between 80 and 85 in-patient beds being added and all three floors of the edifice under construction would have accommodation for in-patients.
The project was originally an 18 months undertaking and fortnightly meetings are held, by the Health Facilities Development Unit, to review its progress.
Samaroo maintained there is much action on site and the pace of work is in line with the schedule.
He said the contracted R. Basso Contracting Firm has most of what is needed to complete the job and ancillary support work, spawning plumbing and electrics, are being done simultaneously with the construction.
“We are 52 to 58 per cent complete and are progressing at a good pace,” Samaroo maintained.
The upgrade is in keeping with GPHC’s master plan and the national development strategy to improve the quality and efficacy of health care services and is expected to facilitate housing approximately 300 patients.
