FORMER Guyana and West Indies Under-19 skipper Leon Johnson has been appointed skipper of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Flex Text team, which will begin its quest in the Demerara zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised DIGICEL-sponsored Summer Smash Twenty20 competition.
Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) all-rounder Steven Jacobs, who like Johnson is a former national and Windies youth skipper, Guyana/Stanford 20/20 players Dion Ferrier, pugnacious all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and wicketkeeper/batsman Darwin Christian are also included in the 15-man squad.
Essequibo fast bowler Trevon Garraway, who late last year told this reporter he is interested in playing for Demerara, is one step closer to making that a reality with his inclusion in the GCA side.
West Indies Under-19 opener Trevon Griffith has been mixing aggression with defence of late. So too has discarded national opener Shemroy Barrington. Everest Cricket Club’s first division skipper Abhilash Dookie has shown tremendous ability in this format of the game, so they are all in the 15-man squad.
Ravi Sarwan, Troy Gonsalves, Kelon Carmichael, Totaram Bishun, Damian Van Tull and national Under-19 left-arm swing bowler Andre Stoll complete the squad who play their first game against East Coast’s Flex Check on Sunday at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground.
The full squad reads: Leon Johnson (captain), Christopher Barnwell, Shemroy Barrington, Steven Jacobs, Trevon Griffith, Ravi Sarwan, Abhilash Dookie, Dion Ferrier, Darwin Christian, Damian Van Tull, Totaram Bishun, Troy Gonsalves, Andre Stoll, Kelon Carmichael and Trevon Garraway.
