Finance Minister hands over cheque to blind cricketers

MINISTER of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, on Monday, handed over a cheque of $2.5 million to the Guyana Blind Cricket Association, at his Main St. office.
The money, donated at the behest of His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo, will ensure the cricketers’ participation in the upcoming West Indies Blind Cricket Council Regional tournament in Barbados.
At the simple and brief ceremony, Dr. Singh said cricket has long been recognized as ‘the most powerful force’ in defining the Guyanese and Caribbean culture and character.
According to the Finance Minister, government felt that, with a force as ‘powerfully unifying’ as cricket, it was wise to ensure universal access is enjoyed by all especially by those differently abled.
The West Indies Blind Cricket Regional tournament is currently underway.
