BOSAI, NACCIE sign salary agreement

– workers to benefit from seven percent increase
Chief Labour Officer, Yoganand Persaud, yesterday announced a seven percent across the board wage increase for workers of BOSAI Minerals Group of Companies, retroactive to April 1, 2010, at the Essequibo Room, Pegasus Hotel.
This increase is a result of a long negotiation process between the bauxite company and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NACCIE).

Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir said that he is confident that the processes of the labour administration are working very well.
“We have had the overwhelming majority of the exchanges between employers, employees and their Unions in the form of agreeable discussions,” he said.

The agreement includes an education grant of $5,000 to be paid annually, a grant for retired workers (workers who worked for five years will be entitled to $20,000, ten years, $40,000, and a pro-rated sum of $4,000 where applicable).
This is the seventh agreement signed for 2010. Further, the Ministry has already unionized four companies thus far in the year. These include the Berbice River Bridge Company Incorporated (BBCI) and the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU), the National Parks Commission (NPC) and GAWU, ADL Supermarket and the Guyana Workers Union (GWU), and the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU).
Minister Nadir urged more employers and unions to amicably work out agreements that are acceptable to all parties.  (GINA)
