St. Joseph Mercy operations returning to some level of normalcy

St. JOSEPH Mercy Hospital, which was recently damaged severely by fire, is continuing its efforts to return operations to some level of normalcy and 18 of the institution’s in-patients who were transferred to Davis Memorial Hospital have been readmitted.
This was according to the Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Georgeina Mentore, who added that eight of the 10 private doctors functioning from the hospital have been accommodated.

“The ears, nose and throat specialist Dr. Roger Viapree and the dentist Dr. Jennifer Bulkhan are the only ones not yet accommodated,” she said.
Mentore noted too that efforts are being made to ensure that the emergency services can be offered by the hospital by Monday.
“We are working on getting things in order,” she said.
Presently, the out-patient services continue to be offered and the rebuilding effort is being addressed.
Losses at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital included the offices of private doctors that functioned from the hospital, the emergency room, the admissions and discharge section, the nursing service area and one of two operating theatres – one completely destroyed while the other was not – and some of the medical records.
The hospital at 132 Parade Street, Kingston, one of the premiere health care delivery institutions was razed by fire early last month.
