JOURNALISM in Guyana is filled with laziness. All we have is a media that promotes war and hatred among us and none of the journalists go after the real truth with solid research and investigation.
So all of a sudden Paul Slowe, outgoing Assistant Commissioner of Police becomes an angel because he delivered a speech at his farewell ceremony referring to himself as having been an angel, the most righteous, the most upright and the most virtuous policeman in the history of Guyana.
Those of us who have had encounters with the law at different levels would know that Stabroek News and others who are trying to elevate Paul Slowe to a level he doesn’t deserve are actually not telling the truth and may be showing signs of amnesia. They remind me of how glorifying we speak of the dead even if he/she lived a life of crime.
It was the same Paul Slowe who allegedly demanded a second cousin of mine in 1995 to “come up straight’’ or lose his firearm in a shooting incident in Georgetown. My cousin ended up paying $300,000. It was the same Paul Slowe who allegedly beat up and kicked up women among other misdemeanours.
It is unfortunate that the reports over the last few days try to play on the gullibility of some Guyanese. Paul Slowe should not pretend to be the most righteous man when the records are there to show he was like every other policeman, maybe a little better or worse than some of his colleagues.
The media must do their homework in order to bring truth to the people. We cannot give an accolade to someone who doesn’t deserve it. Paul Slowe must come clean.
