Tull to rival Christian for wicket-keeping spot

… as GCA shortlists squad for DJ Stress T20
INAUGURAL Guyana/Stanford wicketkeeper/batsman Tyrell Tull has been selected to rival the man who replaced him for the second version of the said tournament, Darwin Christian, for a place on the Gizmos and Gadgets Georgetown Pitbulls team
that will be competing in the second DJ Stress 20/20 Festival on July 4 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. With over one million dollars in cash and prizes up for grabs by the four teams, namely G&G Georgetown Pitbulls, Universal DVD Club’s Berbice Titans, Digicom Moosai Tigers and defending champions Hotel Tower New Line Cavaliers, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) is leaving no stones unturned as they seek to go one step further following their loss to NLC in the inaugural final.
Many are au fait of Tull’s wicket-keeping and he is arguably the best wicketkeeper around in the Land of Many Waters and while Christian’s glove work has been tidy, it’s his production in front of the wicket that has been of concern to many cricket pundits.
Tull last showcased his talent for the cricketing public at the GNS last year in the Super Over of the second match of the specially organised 20/20 practice match against Trinidad and Tobago, when he executed a lightning speed stumping on West Indies middle order batsman Darren Bravo, handing off-spinner Dion Ferrier a hat-trick.
Apart from Tull and Christian, other notable selectees in the 27-man squad that is asked to assemble at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) for 16:00 h this afternoon include Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Travis Dowlin and Ramnaresh Sarwan, with the first two being exempted as they are away on West Indies duty.
Also included in the line-up are Essequibo’s fast bowlers Trevon Garraway and Trevor Benn, with the former expressing his desires to play for Demerara in the 2010 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-county tournaments, following some shabby treatment from a section of officials of the Essequibo Cricket Board late last year.
The 27-man squad reads: Wasim Haslim, Trevon Griffith, Ryan Ramdass, Shemroy Barrington and Christopher Barnwell (openers), Leon Johnson, Dion Ferrier, Abhilash Dookie, Steven Jacobs, Danny Narayan, Jamal Hinckson, Ravi Sarwan, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Travis Dowlin, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Troy Gonsalves (middle order batsmen).
Darwin Christian and Tyrell Tull (wicketkeepers), Damion Van Tull, Jason Heyliger, Collis Butts and Totaram Bishun (spinners), Trevon Garraway, Andre Stoll, Dellon Heyliger, Kellon Carmichael and Trevor Benn (fast bowlers).
The meeting at MSC is being coordinated to discuss preparations for the tournament with the management of the team, which is being coached by Roderick Lovell and Neil Barry, two former national cricketers.
