Thompson clocks season-best to reach final

OSLO, Norway CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s Richard Thompson sprinted to a season-best 10.08 seconds to clinch a spot in the men’s 100 metres final at the IAAF Diamond League yesterday. Thompson, who celebrates his 25th birthday on Monday, captured heat one ahead of Jamaican Michael Frater who also posted a season-best 10.08 seconds.
The Netherland Antilles’ Churandy Martina was fourth in 10.11 seconds.
As expected, Jamaican Asafa Powell won the second heat in a time of 10.05 seconds and remains the hot favourite to take the final set for 21:00 h (15:00 h Eastern Caribbean time).
