BCB to host historic Under-13 Inter-club Tournament

AMIDST all the confusion which has been taking place within the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) recently, cricket development in the ancient county of Berbice would receive a major boost later this month when the Berbice Cricket Board launches a historic Inter-club Under-13 tournament. It would be the first-ever Under-13 Inter-club cricket tournament to be organised by a cricket board in Guyana, another plus for the BCB – the shining light of Guyana’s cricket for the past two years.
The tournament would be sponsored by Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited and would be open to teams in Regions 5 and 6 as the BCB sought it best to fulfil a promise made last year, following a successful Under-13 Inter-zone tournament.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee and Public Relations Officer, Hilbert Foster, disclosed that the tournament would be launched on June 16 at the BCB office in New Amsterdam and the main aims of the Tournament would be to serve as a nursery for the County’s Under-15 team while identifying promising Under-13 players for the Board’s Elite Junior Training Programme.
The BCB would like to encourage all interested cricket clubs with Under-13 Teams to contact the Board office to register for the tournament.
Clubs are asked to register by June 21 and can contact the BCB secretary Angela Haniff on telephone number 333-2375 for more information and must note that players for the 2010 edition of the Under-13 Inter-club tournament must be born on or before the September 1, 1996.
The Tournament would start in early July when school closes and the Board’s Junior Selection Committee would use it to select the four teams for the Poonai’s Pharmacy Inter-zone Under-13 Competition scheduled for August, 2010.
