AN & S Auto Sales tops Upper East Coast Zone

AN & S Auto Sales and Spares topped the Upper East Coast Zone of the Guyana Softball League (GSL)/Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS)-organised nationwide softball tournament, when they defeated Vikings XI and Bomb Squad XI last Sunday.
AN & S Auto Sales and Spares XI batted first and scored 130-7 in their 15 overs, with Delroy Pereira leading the way with 56 that was decorated with five sixes and two fours against the bowling of Robin Sammy who took 3-12 from three overs.
In reply, Vikings XI were limited to 80 in the final over, as only Kenny Trotman had an answer to the bowling of Davendra Persaud, when he scored 33 against Persaud’s 4-7 from three overs.
In their second match played in murky conditions AN & S Auto Sales and Spares defused Bomb Squad XI by a massive 70 runs.
In murky conditions AN & S Auto Sales and Spares won the toss and, opting to bat first, amassed 143-4 in their 15 overs with Persaud chalking up 47 which included four sixes and three fours, while Pereira offered support with 35.
The two were involved in a partnership of 60 runs made off 42 balls which took AN & S to their eventual score against the bowling of Marlon Babb who took 1-2 from his three overs for Bomb Squad XI.
When Bomb Squad XI batted they found runs hard to come by and lost wickets at regular intervals as their batsmen tried to keep up with the required run rate. They were bowled out for 73 in 10.2 overs.
The best batsman was Munesh Singh with 19 against the bowling of Ganpat Narine who took 3-20 and Pereira who returned to scalp 2-22, both from three overs each for A N &S.
Both teams will now challenge the lower East Coast champions and runners-up to determine which teams make it into the national quarterfinals, the date for which to be announced later.
