Nineteen year old charged with attempting to murder father-in-law

In Berbice…
A nineteen-year-old Cane Harvester was refused bail  by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo after he allegedly  attempted to murder his father-in-law, following a domestic spat on May 25, last.
Yadesh Ramdat of Lot 504 Belvedere Squatting area, Corentyne, went to his in-laws home, a short distance away, to retrieve his common law wife and their son following their separation, but Seelochan Mahadeo (the father-in-law) prevented the defendant, who was reportedly  armed with a cutlass, from entering his yard.
As a result, Ramdat got annoyed and dealt the virtual complainant several chops on his right arm.
The alleged victim was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains a patient.
Police Inspector, Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting in the New Amsterdam Court, objected to pre-trial liberty on the grounds that the victim is hospitalized in a serious condition.
According to the prosecutor, a medical certificate has not been issued, as practitioners are yet to ascertain the patients’ condition.
Defence Lawyer, Charrandas Persaud, informed the court that the alleged incident stemmed from a domestic problem which resulted in the separation of a family.
“Your Worship, my client was attempting to collect his wife from her parents home when the father-in-law attacked him,” Persaud argued.
The matter  has been transferred to the Albion Court.
