THE Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) has congratulated the People’s Partnership and the new Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Kamla Persaud-Bissessar on a resounding victory at the polls.
GAWU’s congratulatory message said: “The People’s Partnership promised change – profound, fundamental and almost revolutionary change – and the people of Trinidad and Tobago delivered. The pollsters had predicted a close electoral race and finish, but the Partnership triumphed in an overwhelming victory truly reflecting their name and platform of a People’s Partnership.”
“GAWU extends heartiest congratulations to new and Trinidad’s first female Prime Minister Madam Kamla Persad-Bissessar, her Party and Alliance on a magnificent victory.”
“From a Trade Union perspective, GAWU is also pleased to know that many working-class stalwarts mobilised the working people of Trinidad and Tobago to usher in change. GAWU is also reasonably confident that the new government will embrace a working-class agenda as it pursues its Manifesto’s promises and programmes.”
“It is our fervent hope that the coalition is characterised by a political maturity based on tolerance, compromise, frank exchange and all that is in the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago – an ultimately the Caribbean community as a whole.”
“Long live Guyana-Trinidad and Tobago solidarity! On to better governance, corruption-free management and people-centered development.”
