Wounding defendant alleges victim stole

A MAN who claims to have apprehended a thief was yesterday charged with feloniously wounding him.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, Alfred Bradshaw, 25, of Lot 46 Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown,
pleaded not guilty to the charge which said, on May 19 last, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Martin Andrews with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.
But Bradshaw’s  lawyer, Mr. Sase Gunraj said the former had found the virtual complainant at the scene where something stolen from his mother’s mini-bus was discovered and the two were involved in a confrontation.
Gunraj said Andrews was armed with a knife which wounded him during the ensuing scuffle.
However, Andrews alleged that Bradshaw, after stealing his gold chain, used a cutlass and chopped him several times.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, confirmed that Andrews suffered chops about his body and objected to bail for Bradshaw, stating that the two men live in  close proximity.
The magistrate overruled the objection by the Prosecutor and granted Bradshaw $150,000 bail until June 25.
