I feel compelled at this point to send you this letter expressing my deep disappointment at your action in tearing down the “Shri Prakash Gossai” sign from the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir. Guruji would be crying in his grave because of this misguided action. (I learnt about this action from an email that I received yesterday. I was able to corroborate this with
other sources).
Can any of you explain why you had to resort to such heartless action just before the first anniversary of Guruji’s passing? I had mentioned in a previous letter to you that the Gossai family never intended or
would never bring a lawsuit for the use of the name “Shri Prakash Gossai” on the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir. The legal letter that was circulated, concerned commercial undertakings. Which lawyer advised you on this? Can you be good enough to give me his/her name and telephone
number? Thanks.
I had earlier warned that, despite the fact that you all are doing a good job so far in running the Mandir, all this would become meaningless if you pull down Guruji’s sign, and that you would lose much public
support and goodwill. Whether or not this particular action was taken to get even with the Gossai family, such action should have never been taken. It’s much more than the Gossai family that you are hurting. You
are hurting his thousands of supporters as well, in addition to his legacy. How can you, in all conscience, claim that your love for Guruji was so strong, and yet you were able to commit that dastardly act? I
refuse to believe that your love for Guruji died also when he died.
Anjee, Roy, Jerome, and Sally, among others, had publicly professed their love for Guruji and I cannot imagine how you, too, would have agreed to pull that sign, which was consecrated by the President of
Guyana, Hon Bharrat Jagdeo. One Leader put it this way:”that was a shameful act.”
By injudiciously pulling down the sign, you wrongly assume that you would avoid a lawsuit. The lawsuit was just a pretext. In the court of public opinion, your act is seen very differently. It’s being viewed as
mean-spirited and calculated to hurt the people who cared deeply about Guruji’s legacy. But why the pre-occupation with lawsuits? If you are so concerned with avoiding lawsuits, why don’t you run the Mandir in
accordance with its Charter? Standard rules and protocols have been violated repeatedly. Are you concerned about this, too? Let’s get real!
Mandirs, including the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir, are about building lives, hope, aspirations, goodwill, compassion, and honour. It’s not about breaking things or pulling down people; these are repugnant to the very
foundation upon which a Mandir rests. I have said repeatedly that this level of bitterness and apparent desire to get even must stop. We must begin a conversation to heal the gaping wounds that exist in order to restore the Mandir to its lost glory and standing. If there could be no peace and harmony in a Mandir, then why do we have a Mandir? I have said
on many occasions before that if the executive is doing a good job, then they must continue. But this does not mean that we should not introduce some necessary changes to allow for the smooth and harmonious running of the Mandir as well as to recast it as a center for learning and Indian culture, as Guruji had envisoned.
I invite you to join me in re-starting a meaningful dialogue(conversation) between the Executive and the Gossai family. Both sides have indulged in excesses that are not helpful. Again, contrary to what
you may think, I am on nobody’s side in this matter. Well, yes, I am on the side of truth. We have to stop this hemorrhage. I will be happy to set up a meeting with Representatives (3) of the Executive and the
Representatives (3) of the Gossai family. We would follow an agenda so that people would not get derailed from the important issues.
Best wishes. God bless.
