IT is not unusual for AFC Executive, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan to make blunders in his haste to attract publicity for anything, something and nothing. Again, Mr. Ramjattan has allowed himself to be misinformed about Ms. Gail Teixeira’s comments on the call for an independent inquiry into alleged ‘phantom squad’ killings. I paid careful attention to Ms. Teixeira’s comments on this particular matter at the press conference between herself and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Carolyn Rodriques-Birkette and there was no ambiguity about what Ms. Teixeira was talking about on this matter. She never insinuated at anytime there were no ‘independents’ to constitute a commission of inquiry. In fact, her comment about ‘independents’ was in relation to the media determining ‘independence’ on the basis of their own likes and dislikes for particular outcomes on these commissions, using the Gajraj inquiry as an example.
As a lawyer and politician, Mr. Ramjattan ought to exercise care and diligence when dealing with matters and avoid the constant embarrassment over wild statements and assumptions that often have no bearings on the truth and reality. The experience in Parliament in which he was forced to apologise to the Speaker and members of the Assembly for misleading the House is too recent for him to be repeating the same mistake.
Ramjattan should not repeat the same mistake of misleading people
