The police should deal with those fraudulently presenting themselves as JPs

AS in other letters/statements, Mr. Bholaisingh is making a case that membership to the Justices of the Peace Association be compulsory for current and future Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits. He also brings to readers that there is no oversight body to regulate the functions of JPs and COAs. He lamented the fact that after being President of his Organisation for three years only fifty of nearly five hundred JPs and COAs are members.
Sir, if some persons are fraudulently presenting themselves as Justices of the Peace and or Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits then those are matters for the police and not the JP Association. By what authority the JP association can regulate the functions of Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits?
Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits are persons from different backgrounds. They are professionals as well as lay persons whose only interest should be to serve their community voluntarily. It would therefore be wrong to compel them to be members of the JP association.
With regards to Justices of the Peace and Commissioners not joining the Association, I wish to ask the following questions: 1. is it that the Justices of Peace and Commissioners of Oaths have no confidence in the current leadership? 2.  Is it that the Justices of Peace and Commissioners of Oaths see no benefit in joining the association?  3. Is there any law that forbids the formation of other JP associations?  4. If there is no such law, how can there be compulsory registration with Mr. Bholaisingh’s Association?
It is my firm belief that if readers are informed what the aims and objectives are, and what benefits membership brings they are more likely to join this association. For mow it seems that we have a JP with an over inflated ego who is seeking to feather his own nest.
