Two Councillors call for Anti-Narcotics Squad
MEMBER of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Cornel Damon, on Tuesday, called for an anti-narcotics squad on the Essequibo Coast. Speaking at the RDC statutory meeting, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor said it is rumoured that Essequibo Coast is the main transshipment point for drugs and, as such, enforcers are urgently needed to curb the trafficking.
Another Councillor, Mr. Francis Darchiville, of the Alliance for Change (AFC), supported Damon’s call.
Darchiville said the need is especially at Charity and in Pomeroon River.
Charity is a point of entry to Essequibo Coast but does not have an Immigration Office and many illegal aliens enter the country there by way of Pomeroon River.
