BANKING giant Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has once again joined hands with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), in agreeing to sponsor, for the fourth successive year, the club’s Annual Sports and Educational Summer Camp. The camp will be held from July 12, at the Area H ground and is expected to last for a period of six weeks, where 60 Grade Six primary school students will be fully prepared for their entrance into secondary school.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the main aim of the camp would be to make sure that the Grade Six students are fully prepared for their entrance into secondary school later this year, while at the same time expose them to the basic coaching in cricket, volleyball, chess, athletics and basketball.
The students would be involved in classroom work where the following subjects Maths, English, Social Studies and Integrated Science would be taught.
Added to that, members of the club and professional personnel would also lecture the students on several topics including the Importance of Education and Discipline, HIV/AIDS, Peer Pressure, Drug Abuse, Public Speaking and Personal Hygiene.
The 2009 National Sports Personality stated that at the end of the camp students would be fully prepared for the transition from primary to secondary school and should also be aware of the importance of sports and how it can assist in their personal development.
Foster also expressed gratitude to the management and staff of Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited for their continued sponsorship and pledged that the camp would be a total success, thanks to the sponsors.
Manager of the Republic Bank’s Rose Hall Town branch, Mr Leon McDonald in handing over the sponsorship cheque of $120 000, stated that Republic Bank placed lots of emphasis on education as it is the foundation to a successful future.
The RHTYSC would like to encourage all Grade Six students in the Lower Corentyne area to contact the club on telephone number 337-4562 or visit its office to register as early as possible for the camp, which is being organised by the RHT Gizmos and Gadgets first division team and conducted by senior teacher Rohan Etwaru.
