Bridgette Gangadin’s relatives trying to have her cremated today

The funeral for Bridgette Gangadin, 30, of 3 ‘E’ Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara,
is scheduled to take place today, after being postponed five times.

Bridgette’s uncle, Heeralall Sookdeo, told the Guyana Chronicle that after a meeting with lawyers of both parties a date was set for the funeral arrangements of Bridgette Gangadin, which is scheduled for today at 13:00 hrs at Good Hope Crematorium, East Coast Demerara.
The meeting between Dwarka Gangadin’s parents and relatives of Bridgette Gangadin took place at Bernard De Santos’ office in the city yesterday afternoon.
Bridgette’s uncle, Heeralall Sookdeo, said that Dwarka’s parents would like to have the funeral on Friday because they are trying to get permission from the court for him to be at his wife’s funeral but they want their loved one to be cremated.
He said, “We feel it has been long enough now, and it is really difficult for us; but Bridgette needs to be cremated because she has suffered a lot and even in death she is suffering to be cremated.”
Mr. Sookdeo added that while they were dressing Bridgette’s body at Jerrick’s Funeral Parlour yesterday, the police showed up and ordered them to stop all preparations and took away her body in a hearse and returned it three hours after to the same parlour.
As a result, the cremation was again postponed much to the distress of relatives, some of whom have already left the country.
Up to press time, Mr. Sookdeo was trying to get the certificate of approval from the Ministry of Health to have the cremation today.
Dwarka Gangadin during his first court appearance at Cove and John Magistrate’s Court, also on the East Coast Demerara, was charged for his wife’s murder and was remanded to prison until June 4.
