GFF Super League continues today with double-header

ACTION in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’ Super League, funded by FIFA, continues today at the GFC ground, Bourda, with an explosive double-header as the quest for first round honours unfolds. In the feature match from 20:00 h unbeaten defending champions and leaders Alpha United with 22 points play the second-placed Rosignol United on 13 points.
At 18:00 h in the opening encounter GDF, who are currently with 12 points to their credit, meet Buxton United on 11 points and occupying the fifth spot. With all four teams seeking to emerge victorious to enhance their respective positions, in pursuit of qualifying for the top four of the first round, with the exception of Alpha, who have already qualified, football fans and supporters can expect classical and entertaining displays from the first whistle.
Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams, in tandem with Dwight Peters, leads Alpha’s challenge, bolstered by midfielders Philbert Moffat and Sean Bishop. Marshalling the defence will be Howard Lowe and Kelvin McKenzie, with custodian Ronson Williams performing duties between the uprights, as the clubs playing their final match in the first round would aspire to end on a winning note.
Responding for the Berbicians, who are playing their penultimate match are Garson Baker, Olvis Mitchell, Delwin Fraser, Roncy Caleb, Tyson Carmichael and Sherwin Lewis.
Can the lineup from the Ancient County, emulate Camptown’s performance and deny Alpha the maximum 3 points with the possibility of a draw, or hand the points leaders its first defeat? This and other questions will be answered this evening, when the final whistle is blown.
Meanwhile, both GDF and Buxton United will also be playing their final match.
However, the army lineup with three wins, three draws and two losses in their eight matches would definitely need to intensify their firepower following a 0-0 draw with Victoria Kings, their most recent match.
As such, much will depend upon Stellon David, Clement Browne, Desford Williams and Delroy Deem to provide the required goals in pursuit of their fourth win.
But with the Buxtonians also seeking their fourth victory will be relying on the combination of Les Charles Critchlow, Keoma Sullivan, along with Jamal and Michael Phyll to achieve the feat.
