Commodore Best receives highest Brazilian military honour

GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best has been awarded Brazil’s highest military honour, the Order of Military Merit, by Brazilian President Luiz Ignacio Lula Da Silva.
The recipient was officially decorated with the award by
Ambassador of Brazil to Guyana, Mr. Luiz Gilberto Seixas de Andrade, at a ceremony to mark that country’s Army Day last Friday.
Speaking at the function, in Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown, the diplomat said Best received the accolade for “being the driving force behind more productive cooperation between Guyana and Brazil in the field of defence.”
de Anrade emphasised the good relations that currently exist between the two countries.
The Order of Military Merit was created by decree on July 11, 1934 and is intended to honour persons in the Army, Navy and Air Force, members of the Auxiliary Forces, civilians and foreigners, who have rendered relevant services to the Brazilian Army and deserve the homage of the Force.
Best is the first Guyanese to have received it and de Anrade congratulated him on behalf of the President and people of Brazil and extended best wishes for higher achievements in his career.
