Taxi driver’s body burnt beyond recognition

Police, acting on information received at about 11:20 hrs  Sunday, found a burnt motorcar with the charred remains of a body which locked in the trunk on a dam at Palmyra Village, East Canje, Berbice.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Steve Merai, said that, following the discovery, a woman
reported her loved one missing and assumed that the remains, are those  of a New Amsterdam taxi driver, Roy Mitchell Persaud called “Otis”.
The man went missing since Friday; he worked at the New Amsterdam car park where he was last seen Friday morning.
The police will compare car’s chassis number with records from the License Office to confirm whether the vehicle is the one used by Persaud.
Persaud, 32, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, a father of two, is well known to them since he has had several brushes with the law.
Police yesterday said only a DNA can confirm the man’s identity, and investigations are continuing.
