Guyana can only get better.

THERE are certain basic social amenities that are indispensable to any community and its citizens daily living: an unrestricted flow of potable water; daily supply of electricity; proper roads; and of course, health facilities. Taken together, they are all inextricably linked to any community’s comfort and well- being. There was once upon a time when these facilities were either not present or where they were, operated under primitive conditions. Supplies were also unreliable throughout our coast. No one can deny this fact.
The last five to ten years have seen a steady and consistent flow of sectoral development projects along the coastalways of Guyana, that have been transforming the rural quality of life: newly-built diagnostic centres, refurbished health centres and hospitals; kilometres of  newly-built roads and electrification; and the laying of miles of pipelines, and water treatment plants for the supply of potable water.
Last Friday’s  newly commissioned $400M water treatment plant at the West Coast Berbice, Cotton Tree village, by President Bharrat Jagdeo, is another of these transformational projects that will bring immense relief and comfort to the 15,000-odd residents. Water borne infections, for example, will be greatly eliminated, in addition to a safe supply of water assured.
I commend the administration for giving priority to this important necessity.
Guyana can only get better.
