Hungry thief bonded, other larceny defendant granted bail

GEORGE Hollingsworth, 42, of Lot 137 Half Mile Wismar, Linden, was put on a one year bond yesterday on conviction for simple larceny. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, he pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of steel rods, valued $1,800, property of Edward Beharry and Sons Ltd on May 5.
The convict begged for mercy, claiming he was hungry and needed money to buy a meal but a security guard apprehended him.
Another man, Edison Noel, 24, of Lot 47 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, accused of larceny from the person, was granted $25,000 bail until May 12.
He denied that, on December 22, 2009, he stole a $60,000 gold band from Aviana Slowe.
The defendant told the Court the virtual complainant’s father beat him after she made the allegation.
