Inclement weather fails to deter thousands from attending IAC mela in Berbice

DESPITE the heavy showers and thick white clouds covering the entire Corentyne Coast in Berbice yesterday, the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) successfully held their Arrival Day  mela for this year. The mela, which was attended by thousands of Berbicians from  all walks of life, was thoroughly  enjoyed by the patrons.

The Chronicle understands that the Mela was fully supported by  the UG campus in Berbice, the Regional administrative body, GuySuCo, and other stakeholders.

“It was an amazing sight to see Berbicians stand in the ‘drizzle’ to witness the rich cultural presentation provided by our very own local dancers and not forgetting the Tassa troupes,” an IAC official stated.

The crowd was also entertained by the very popular Shakti Strings international orchestra, with chutney favourites from the Maestro, Puran Seeraj.
