Pedal cyclist dies in collision with minibus

A minibus driver is in police custody following a fatal accident on Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, on Saturday.
Dead is pedal cyclist Kevin Brian Roberts, 52, of 15 Norton Street, Lodge.
His wife, Paulette Daniels, 50, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that he left home after 15:00 hrs and said he was going to visit a friend who owed him some money.
He was on his way on his bicycle when he was killed.
She said the he had reportedly stopped to pick up his cap which had blown off his head and he was on his bicycle when he was hit by a speeding minibus.
A police report said that minibus BLL 495 was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that Kevin Roberts rode out from South Alley onto the main road and was struck down. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the minibus is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Roberts was the father of five and is expected to be buried on Tuesday.

And in a separate fatal accident that occurred at about 19:00 hrs on Saturday, at Long Creek, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Joshua Douglas, 13, of Long Creek, was killed.
Investigations have revealed that Joshua Douglas was being towed on a bicycle by Ryan Rampersaud, 21, of Dora Park, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, at the time. It is alleged by the driver of motor car PJJ 6668 that as he was about to pass the two on the cycle,  the rider suddenly swerved into the path of the motor car and they collided.
Joshua Douglas and Ryan Rampersaud were taken to the Mackenzie Hospital where Douglas died while receiving medical attention, and Rampersaud was admitted a patient.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
