ON behalf of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), I wish to sincerely congratulate you on your recent award “United Nations Champions of the Earth Prize” which was conferred on you by the United Nations. This award bears testimony to the numerous contributions you have made on environmental issues locally and internationally. Islam promotes the protection of the environment which guarantees healthy living and will impact in a positive way on humanity.
The Holy Prophet Mohamed (P.B.U.H) said “Anyone who plants a tree and person/s get shade from it, eat from it, or animals eat from it, or someone steals from it, in all of these situations the cultivator will be rewarded like those who have given charity.
In addition, the Holy Prophet prevented persons from cutting down trees. The importance of forests was recognized more than fourteen hundred years ago.
We are extremely pleased that you are advocating the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and we hope the world will recognize the benefits in protecting our environments and the disastrous effects which can be caused if we fail in this endeavour.
