`Screw’ Richmond U-18 schools football final

New champions will be crowned tomorrow afternoon
NEW champions will be crowned tomorrow afternoon when the final of the 2nd annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Linden Schools Under-18 football final is played at the Mackenzie Sports Club.

The final is to be contested between Group B‘s top team Christianburg/Wismar Secondary (Multi) and runners-up Wisburg Secondary, after they posted stunning wins over their Group A rivals and defending champions Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) and the team that led all sides in the preliminary two rounds of play, previously unbeaten Mackenzie High School (MHS) in the two leg semi-finals played recently.
Christianburg Secondary as the leading Group A side won on a 5-3 aggregate after playing to a 2-2 draw in the first leg against LFS and then scoring an authoritative 3-2 victory in the second game to command a place in the final.
On the other hand Wisburg Secondary first smashed their way past the MHS 6-1 and then in the return leg eked out a 1-0 win to ensure themselves a place in this grand final which is being played in honour of one of Linden’s greatest sportsmen and its first national football player.
The final between Group B’s Multi and Wisburg should engender some keen interest although Multi should start as favourites having inflicted the only two losses that Wisburg have had so far in this competition.
However, the last 1-0 victory could give Wisburg some hope of halting the streak of losses to the Multi boys.
If one would look at the semifinals, the Wisburg side showed their true form when they destroyed MHS in the first leg of the semifinals 6-2.
It was a fast and aggressive Wisburg who showed little or no respect for the MHS and their unblemished record, as they jumped at their rivals from the opening whistle and they were rewarded with this huge 6-2 win. Their strike force was led by Javon Tudor, Shawn Allicock, Jamal McLean, Kevin Spencer and a double by Gary King. They were able to maintain the winning ways by winning the second leg 1-0 for a 7-2 aggregate.
On the other hand, the first leg game by Multi, who seemed to have the number of Wisburg, saw them not that impressive in the first semifinal tie as they held on for a 2-2 draw against champions LFS.
The LFS led during the contest twice, but could not deliver the knockout as the Multi boys were able to come back twice and gain a 2-2 draw and canter home in the second leg 3-1 for the 5-2 aggregate
But Wisburg have in their lineup players of the calibre of Rondell Arthur and Clarence Higgins to see them through.
The third-place playoff game should be of interest also with LFS seeking to finish at least third after being number one while MHS having been the top side coming through the preliminary round would hope that Ron Fiedtkou can help them past their opponents.
The first game for third place between MHS and LFS is set for 13:00 h while the championship game starts at for 15:00 h.
Several of the sponsors from the United States are expected to hand over the trophies, replicas and individual awards at the end of the grand final, including Compton ‘Cha Cha’ London, James ‘Gads’ Dennis and Ernest Joseph.
