IN your issue dated April 20, 2010, Mr. Roshan Kahn’s letter paid a most deserving tribute to the commendable voluntary activities of Ms. Syeada Manbodh in her indefatigable service on behalf of unfortunate dumb animals. Indeed, Guyana needs at least a thousand more like her, imbued with her dedication to these animals which are suffering and in need of help.
Inter alia, he cited part of a quotation which he heard used by the late LFS Burnham. This quotation is profound and for the benefit of many who endorse and may like to use it sometimes, I would like to quote the whole maxim (It originated from some obscure author, probably a century ago), but merited re-quoting by Mr. Burnham. Here goes:
“He that knows not, and knows not that he knows not,
He is a fool – shun him.
He that knows not, and knows that he knows not,
He is a child – teach him.
He that knows, and knows not that he knows,
He is asleep – awaken him.
He that knows, and knows that he knows,
He is a wise man – follow him.
