POLICE on Essequibo Coast are investigating a robbery committed on a widow at Devonshire Castle Old Road last Saturday night.
However, up to press time, no one had been arrested in connection with the crime.
The 52-year-old victim, Etwaria Persaud known as Barbara was awakened from her sleep about 02:30 h by a masked, armed bandit, who was choking her.
She said she put up a fight but was overpowered by the gunman, who, cursing continuously, put the weapon to her head and threatened to kill her if she made any noise.
The woman said she became helpless when the robber sat on her stomach and demanded money and jewellery. She handed over $10,000 to the intruder who terrorised her for at least two hours.
He had gained entry to the one flat wooden house by breaking a window.
Meanwhile, angry residents in the village called for more Police action after burglars broke into another Old Road house and stole a bicycle, a DVD player and more booty.
The villagers suspect a group of young men who smoke narcotics.
