RICE farmers are making full use of a new drying floor recently commissioned at Walton Hall on Essequibo Coast.
A visit by the Guyana Chronicle, last Thursday, saw several of the beneficiaries busily drying paddy in the sun, at the $15.5M concrete floor constructed by Government.
The construction was done in collaboration with the Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) and the Rice Producers Association (RPA).
Other drying floors, that cost a total of $400M, were built with the assistance package President Bharrat Jagdeo had promised in light of low prices fort paddy.
The one at Walton Hall can dry up to 300 bags of grain at a time.
The other two, at Henrietta and Golden Fleece, are ready for commissioning.
In all, 12 will be erected countrywide in rice growing areas.
