ATTORNEY-AT-LAW and Chairman of COPS (Guyana) Limited, Mr. Gregory Gaskin has been returned President of Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations (GAPSO).
He was elected unopposed at the April 20 annual general meeting (AGM) when a new executive committee was voted in for the period 2010 to 2012.
Mr. Roderick King, of MMC Security Service, is the new Secretary, replacing Mr. Randy Storm of Banks DIH; Mr. Dougal Kirkpatrick, of PGS, was also retained, unopposed, as Treasurer and Mr. Carlos Beaton, of Laparkan and Mr. Clyde Layne, of Neal & Massay, became new committee members.
Gaskin, in the President’s Report, outlined activities of the previous term, including outreaches to children in depressed areas of the city, a joint survey, with the National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS), into the health and well-being of employees within the industry, a pistol shooting competition and a fun day.
He said the next term will afford GAPSO opportunities to broaden its membership, which now includes 20 members representing 5,000 employees in the sector.
Gaskin said the new GAPSO executive also intends to expand on the work of its training sub-committee, headed by Mr. Maurice Amres, of GEB and Mr. Norman Mc Lean, of Omai, to include security seminars at the level of senior management in public and private entities.
He said, during the last term, close working ties were resumed between GAPSO and the Commissioner of Police and the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Gaskin said it is imperative that GAPSO, with its wide footprint in all 10 Administrative Regions would make available, as far as is practical, its varied resources to assist the GPF in its onerous task of maintaining law and order, a release said.
