THE Deccan Chargers confirmed their spot in the semi-finals of the Indian Premier League with a closely-fought 11-run victory over pre-tournament favourites the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla. in Delhi. The Chargers won an important toss, but Andrew Symonds’s 54 was the only contribution of note in a total of 145 for seven.
The Daredevils then lost their way with the chase until an excellent rearguard action from Paul Collingwood (51 not out) and his unbeaten 48-run stand with Ashish Nehra (22 not out) brought them close, but the Chargers proved too good and the Daredevils were restricted to 134 for seven.
The victory took the Chargers to second spot in the table behind the Mumbai Indians, while it also confirmed the Chennai Super Kings’ place in the last four.
