A HUSBAND and his wife were among three persons nabbed during a raid at Bara Cara, Canje River, Berbice, last Monday, as the Police continued their quest to cripple the drug trade in Guyana. The trio, Glenvis Hinds, 46, Shondell Hinds, 40 and Freddy Edwards, 28, were all remanded to prison by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, after pleading not guilty to separate narcotics trafficking charges, at Reliance Court, East Canje.
They have to be back in Court on May 7.
Glenvis Hinds faced four more charges, of being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without licences, possession of narcotics for the  purpose of trafficking and cultivating a prohibited plant..
Shondell Hinds also faces similar charges except the one for cultivating.
Edward is charged, too, with possession of a narcotic for trafficking.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said ranks, acting on information received, conducted an operation in the riverain area and found a 12-gauge shotgun and five matching cartridges, in a house at Bara Cara.
In addition, 14 kilogrammes 653 grammes of compressed dry marijuana, half an acre  cultivated with the cannabis sativa plant, ranging in height from two to seven feet, were also found a short distance from where the Hinds were arrested, the Prosecutor said.
He also informed that Edwards had 158 grammes of marijuana in a haversack he was carrying.
Successfully opposing bail for the defendants, Figueira cited the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
He reminded that, according to the statute, pre-trial freedom should only be granted if special reasons are advanced by the Defence.
