WILLIAM Nurse, 48, charged with threatening to chop his niece, Joanna Fernandes, was yesterday remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson. The defendant, who lives in the Queen’s College (QC) compound, Camp and Thomas Roads, where he is the caretaker, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said it was committed, last March 22, at Camp and New Market Streets, also in Georgetown.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, told the Court he was not objecting to bail, on condition that the defendant has nothing to say to the virtual complainant.
Nurse, however, said Fernandes’ boyfriend assaulted his son during an argument and the latter obtained a medical certificate from Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Fernandes said she was at her workplace when Nurse brandished a blade and threatened to wound her after she asked his son, who lives in the same house with her, to contribute financially to their expenses.
She said the request triggered the argument and Nurse approached her to fight.
He will remain a prisoner on remand through April 19.
