LUIS Mc Donald, 43, of Lot 231 Da Silva Street, Newtown, was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment for break and enter and larceny. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded guilty to having, between April 10 and 11, broken into the dwelling house of Ken Brunei and stolen three steel windows and other things, all valued $43,000.
The prisoner, who said he solicits passengers at the number 42 minibus park for a living, told the Court he was walking along D’Urban Street, also in Georgetown, when he saw the gate to the premises open and decided to steal the booty.
He claimed he only took pieces of iron which he sells but, when the virtual complainant apprehended him, he was beaten with a piece of the same metal and made to take the stolen things back to the owner’s house.
Mc Donald confessed that he previously spent two months in prison before for the theft of a piece of iron and begged to pay a fine this time.
Magistrate Robertson suggested to the convict that, because he enjoyed his time in jail, he committed the crime again.
Brunei said the door on his building was broken to allow Mc Donald to steal from the second floor.
