It was quite an occasion when the Guyana Trinidad Mutual (GTM) Group of Insurance Companies dedicated its newly rebuilt Region Three branch office at 24 Plantain Walk, Vreed-En-Hoop West Bank Demerara, Friday.
General Manager Mr. Roger Yee stated at the event that the project was the largest single investment since the company commenced operations, costing some $52 M. He disclosed that the insurance company will next turn its attention to Lethem, where there are plans to open another GTM branch office. Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, in an address at the opening, lauded the investment that he said would bring a significant boost to the goods and services offered in Region Three. Singh said that anyone examining the history of the institution would be immensely proud, as the company has a long history of overcoming limitations and forging alliances, and has continued to utilize advantages to expand business.
It is a business which has survived turbulent times.
He said that the government has articulated a number of plans for the financial sector which include sound regulation and responsible management. He noted that the government has taken a number of initiatives to protect the economy that encompasses a number of legislative interventions, including modern, comprehensive anti-money laundering legislation.
Expressing the hope that there would ultimately be a framework for products to develop themselves, he posited that micro-insurance, that is insurance for small businesses, is not being aggressively pursued.
Singh expressed delight at the company’s decision to expand in Lethem, and urged them on. He said that one only has to look back a few years to see how the insurance sector has become modernized.
Chairman of Region Three, Julius Faerber, extended words of encouragement and gratitude to the company, stating: “We are looking forward to working with the company”.
The GTM Group opened its doors on the West Coast of Demerara on December 19, 1994, at 26 Plantain Walk, Vreed-En-Hoop. After serving there for eight years, the company bought its own building and set up office on October 29, 2002 at 24 Plantain Walk, where it remains to date .
The renovation was in keeping with the company’s ongoing effort to improve customer service by enhancing the facilities of all their offices, making them more comfortable and customer-friendly.
The Region Three branch will be managed by the branch supervisor Ms. Damyantee Singh, and is open for business from today.
