PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Former Australia fast bowler Craig McDermott will serve as head coach of a regional fast bowling clinic which started here Wednesday. McDermott, who finished with 291 wickets from 71 Tests and 203 scalps in 138 One-Day Internationals in a 12-year career, wasted little time in getting started with several Under-15 fast bowlers from across the Caribbean.
The week-long clinic is being hosted by the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, in conjunction with the Australia Sports Institute.
Windward Islands left-arm seamer Kenroy Peters heads the list of invited players along with Guyana fast bowler and West Indies ‘A’ selectee Brandon Bess, and Barbadians Javon Searles and Carlos Brathwaite.
Wednesday’s opening ceremony was attended by West Indies batting legend Brian Lara along with the great former opening batsman Gordon Greenidge.
On Monday night at the UTT Campus, Greenidge and McDermott and West Indies Cricket Board director Baldath Mahabir were among the moderators at a public forum discussion.
