RAMADAR Singh, a 53-year-old landlord was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of wounding one of his tenants.
The defendant, of Lot 14-14 Norton street, Wortmanville, pleaded not guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, when he was charged with having, on March 30, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ashok Das. Singh claimed that Das threatened to kill him and his family after he failed to secure a loan from him.
The defendant, who said he owns Cosmetics Connections in Bourda Market, told the Court Das owes him for credit taken from his stall.
But Das said Singh inflicted injury on his head with an ice pick because he encouraged the other tenants to move out.
The virtual complainant said it was not the first time Singh assaulted him and the latter was ordered to remain incarcerated until April 13.
