IN Guyana last year, the performances of vulgar dancehall artistes, who keep our young people up until the wee hours of the morning with inappropriate lyrics and messages, were banned then allowed for reasons which have not been given to the public. I passed through Barbados this week and am pleased to learn that the Head of Government took a firm stand and banned Movado and others, in order to protect the moral structure of their society.
In the hope, that those responsible for policies in Guyana – our religious organisations and others who should have the responsibility to give guidance and inspiration, will take note.
A worrying development in our country, is the stony silence of our religious, academic and social leaders in the face of immorality, corruption and inappropriate behaviour, the old wisdom that ‘silence gives consent’ holds true today, and our social and religious organisations must no longer, as one leader told me, harbour fear, to speak out, if they fail, they will be as guilty as those who are the initiators of this moral decline now evident in our society.
Save our children and Guyana.
Silence against immorality by religious, social organisations worrying
