Following a burglary more than a week ago, during which bandits made off with more than $200,000 in cash, the victims are still awaiting the arrival of the police to investigate the matter.
While the six occupants, including three children, were asleep, thieves gained entry into the house by prising open a window, in the lower flat of the building.
Dharamdat Surujpaul, of 6 Alliance, Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara, told the Guyana Chronicle he and his family retired at about 21:00 hrs on Wednesday of last week, and they got up next morning to find the house had been ransacked by burglars.
He said he quickly summoned members of the community policing group and later informed the police. Up to yesterday the Police had not shown up.
Mr. Surujpaul explained that the robbers even made off with his grandchildren’s piggy bank money, and they emptied all the purses and took all the cash they found in the house.
They tumbled up clothing in a wardrobe and took cash which was stashed there as well. Mr. Surujpaul said the thieves also took away cellular phones.
Surujpaul believes that it was the same gang that broke into a neighbour’s house that same night and took all the cash they found.
