NINE cows created havoc around Georgetown yesterday after their early morning escape from the Municipal Abattoir in Water Street. The animals were sighted on Regent, Church and New Garden Streets, having damaged a motor vehicle mirror and a motorbike.
Chief Meat and Food Inspector, Mr. Jagdeep Singh said, upon reporting for duty, he was told by the overnight security that the animals escaped about 03:00 h, after creating a hole in the wooden enclosure that is used to pen them.
He said that the holding place was not overcrowded and is capable of accommodating more than the number which had been there.
Singh said such an occurrence involving that number of cattle was unprecedented nor were there any escapes in recent times.
However, by 10:00 hours, he said seven of the cows had been recaptured.
