A man was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment for stealing food from his sister’s house. Cecil Forde, 41, of 741 East Ruimveldt, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny from a dwelling house. The charge stated that on February 23, he stole from the dwelling house of Diane Lewis a quantity of food valued $3,000.
The defendant said he was hungry and he broke into his sister’s home and ate all the food that was prepared. He said he needs medical attention because he cannot work presently.
“Your worship I still have a spoon here in my pocket to eat whatever I get cause I was very hungry. I’m keeping this spoon to eat whatever I get to eat today” said the defendant.
The virtual complainant said on the day in question she was out selling when her sister called and informed her that their brother was inside the house. She said the defendant broke a window to gain entry to her home. She said the defendant ate all the food that she prepared for Mashramani.
The woman said her brother is in the habit of threatening her if she refused to give him anything. She said he normally smokes and then demands things from his other siblings. She said the defendant threatened to kill her and his other siblings.
Lewis said the defendant was also recently released from prison on a similar charge. She said her brother told her that he likes prison and he will continue doing the same thing.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting requested that the magistrate take into account that the defendant is not a first offender.
