TM Lecture at Pegasus tomorrow

A FREE public presentation on the Transcendental Meditation programme as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi will be held tomorrow at the Pegasus Hotel, Kingston in the Essequibo Room, at 5:30pm.
The presentation will include a slide show highlighting the more than 600 scientific
researches done at more than 200 research institutions worldwide, demonstrating the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in the areas of mental potential, health, social behaviour and world peace.
According to a release from the organisers, the Transcendental Meditation Technique was introduced to the world some 54 years ago by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who trained over 40,000 teachers, opened thousands of teaching centres, and founded hundreds of schools, colleges and universities.
Monday’s presentation, the release said, will be given by Richard & Janine Robertson, trained instructors of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, who represent the Global Country of World Peace (organization responsible for the TM Programme worldwide).

Benefits for Daily Life
Robertson is of the opinion that stress is a disease, and maybe the most serious problem that mankind has to cope with today. “It is the cause of more than 90% of the illnesses known today according to modern medicine,” he said. “Stress destroys health [and] interpersonal relationships, and is the main cause of social and political problems leading to social unrest and war and therefore is the biggest obstacle to progress since it disturbs peace.”
Scientific research, he says, shows that the deep rest gained during the Transcendental Meditation technique allows the body to return to a more balanced state. “It decreases anxiety and depression, normalizes high blood pressure, reduces high cholesterol levels, improves bronchial asthma, and provides relief from insomnia. It can even improve reaction time and athletic performance.”
People who practise the Transcendental Meditation technique, he says, report having had “less stress, more energy, better sleep, and less tension in their life.” Many even find it easier to reduce alcohol use, stop smoking, and let go of unhealthy habits, Robertson said, adding that research has also shown that since getting rid of their habit, those persons at reference have had lower medical costs, fewer visits to the doctor, and less hospitalization.
The Transcendental Meditation technique is done for 20 minutes, twice per day, sitting comfortably. It is a scientific technique that can be practised by anyone, regardless of age, religion or educational background. It does not involve concentration or contemplation and therefore is easy to do.
