Police hunting particular van Beek shooting suspect

– Crime Chief
POLICE Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said Monday that there has been no new development in the investigations into the shooting of former Commissioner of Insurance, Mrs. Maria van Beek.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police told the Guyana Chronicle that, although several persons were held for questioning and later released, the Police are still looking for a particular man, who has managed to elude them, so far.

However, the Police are continuing to work on the probable motive for the April 16, 2009 attack on van Beek who was the Court appointed Judicial Manager of the failed insurance giant, CLICO Guyana.

Mrs.  van Beek was shot in the chest, by a lone gunman who fled the scene, on Lombard Street, Georgetown, at about 08:15 h while driving in slow traffic.

Prior to the incident, she had reported, to the Court, that the company is insolvent as its liabilities exceeded its assets by $11.9 billion.

Mrs.  van Beek was hospitalised and, after her recovery from the injury, she was granted leave and was expected to resume duties this year.

A telephone call to her office yesterday, confirmed that she is still on leave.
