Woman charged with threatening probation officer remanded

MELINDA Nelson, 35, of Lot 169 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison overnight, on a charge of using threatening language to a probation officer.
The defendant appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to issuing the threat, on March 5, to Zola Cameron, causing a breach of the peace.

Nelson told the Court the virtual complainant requested her mother’s identification (ID) card and, because she refused to hand it over, the allegation was made against her.
Cameron said she would, usually, visit the home of pensioners who cannot walk to deliver their pension books and the defendant, who signed to collect her mother’s, was uplifting the money because the beneficiary was hospitalised.
She said two elder sisters visited her office and informed that Nelson has not given their mother any of what she collected.
Consequently, Cameron said she went to retrieve the sick woman’s  ID card but the defendant did not hand it over.
“I was in execution of my duties and this woman started to curse me for nothing. Then she said she will deal with me later,”Cameron reported.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said public servants should be able to carry out their mandates and people in the society should have respect for them.
The case will be called, again, today.
