Demolition of structure leads to Police charges

ACTING Chief Magistrate Melisssa Robertson yesterday heard how the demolition of a structure led to a man being slapped with two charges.
Before the Court then was Alex Khan, 28, of Lot 66 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, Georgetown, who pleaded not guilty to assault and malicious damage to property.

It is alleged that, last February 27, he unlawfully assaulted Patricia Taitt so as to cause her actual bodily harm and unlawfully and maliciously damaged her window valued $18,000.
Khan related that the virtual complainant took men to break down his fence and he was preventing the destruction, by throwing a rock which broke the window accidentally.
He said Taitt was threatening to take away the land owned by his father-in-law.
The woman, however, said the land belongs to her and the defendant, who is squatting, begged her to remain on it until he gets somewhere else to live.
But, after she received an order from the City Council to dismantle the fence and the building and men had completed the job, the defendant arrived, used indecent language to her and hurled several rocks at her house, one of which did the damage to the window while another struck her on the shoulder.
Taitt said, on previous occasions, she paid to demolish the building that the defendant is occupying but he would repair it although the City Council has condemned it.
Khan was remanded to prison and the case has been transferred to another Court for March 17.
