-suspected of drowning at Old England
A sixty-six year old man, Amos Pearson, whose body was feared to have drowned at Old England after he went missing on Saturday night, had his body retrieved from the Demerara River Sunday morning some distance away from where he was last seen alive. In fact the dead man’s body was seen approximately 800 metres away from the area where he was last seen consuming alcohol with a brother- in-law before leaving for his home.
Reports indicate that the two men left together for home but after leaving his brother-in-law along the way home, Pearson continued his journey home but never made it. Pearson’s boat was found drifting on the Demerara River the next morning and found in it was a loaf of bread he had in his possession with the intention of taking home.
Residents in the area then sought to find the man but were unsuccessful, but his body was later seen entangled close to the river bank near a clump of bushes.
The police at Linden have placed a man in custody who they believe had last seen Pearson alive. (Joe Chapman)
