Jailed fraud forged signature of President Jagdeo

RABINDRA Rooplall also known as Dwayne Ramsundar was yesterday sentenced to a total of six years imprisonment on conviction for obtaining money under false pretence and forgery. The prisoner (no address given) pleaded guilty to both charges, one of which said, on July 30, 2009, he obtained $5,000 from Farouk Ahmin, by falsely pretending to be a pastor collecting donations.

The other charge said, on March 3, 2010, with the intent to defraud, he forged the signature of President Bharrat Jagdeo.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the convict pretended to be an Assembly of God pastor and told the virtual complainant, who gave him the money, that he was seeking donations on behalf of the church.

The Prosecutor said Rooplall is a known confidence trickster and was walking on Hadfield Street, Georgetown, when Police ranks searched him and found a letter stating that he had been pardoned by President Jagdeo and, if anyone from the media or Police Force stopped him, they would be dealt with severely.

The letter also stated that Rooplall had been previously bonded to keep the peace for 40 years and it carried the signature of the Head of State.
